However, Custom Builders Atlanta’s new foreclosure inspection and warranty program might be able to restore the confidence of homebuyers.

With a new Federal law, employers who hire the unemployed can claim tax credits now and in the future. You’ll save right away because you don’t have to pay your share of Social Security on wages paid through the end of 2010. Plus, once the employee has worked for you more than a year, you’ll get a $1,000 tax credit.

The Equifax Personal Finance Blog offers details of the program in the article, “Hiring? Do Your New Hires Qualify You for Tax Credits?”

The credits stem from the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act, which was enacted in March 2010. You can apply for credits for most employees hired since February 3, 2010, if they were unemployed or underemployed for at least 60 days before their hire date with you. “Underemployed” is defined as working no more than 40 hours during the previous 60 days. The employee must sign a Form W-11 swearing that they qualify for the program, and there is no obligation for you to verify their claim.

A longtime program that many home builders may not know about is the Work Opportunity Credit. It offers a credit of 25 to 50 percent of first- and second-year wages when Read More→
